Minimal File Search

A minimalist desktop file explorer, recursive search tool, and interactive disk-space visualizer for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Minimal File Search Minimal File Search

Why I built it

Finding a file or understanding what consumes disk space should not require uploading an index or navigating a heavyweight file manager.

What I built

  • Direct folder browsing, recursive search, filtering, renaming, opening, and moving items to the system trash.
  • Background folder-size calculation and an interactive double-donut disk-usage view.
  • Virtualized rendering for large result sets and separate workers for search and storage analysis.

What it taught me

  • Responsiveness is a product feature when the data lives on the user’s disk.
  • Privacy can be made legible through architecture: no uploaded index, telemetry, or file metadata.
