Local-first Chrome new-tab extension
Silence
Each new tab becomes a short guided breathing break — square breathing, starting at sixteen seconds, with no account, no feed and no noise.
Who it is for
Anyone who opens a new tab between tasks and wants a pause instead of another feed.
What it does
- Guided square breathing — inhale, hold, exhale, hold, four seconds each — with or without voice.
- After a completed session, Silence stays out of the way for 25 minutes. No streaks, no guilt.
- Runs entirely in the browser. No account, no ads, no tracking.
Why I built it
Most new-tab extensions add information, metrics and choices. Silence uses the same surface to remove noise for a few seconds.
What I built
- Sessions from one to sixteen cycles with exact duration previews.
- Automatic interface and voice language detection.
- A synchronized SVG guide and progress path with local persistence.
What it taught me
- A wellness interface benefits from fewer controls and a predictable rhythm.
- Local-only settings make a small product easier to explain and trust.
