Step 1 · Day 1
Define it, then choose what to show
One sentence a stranger understands in ten seconds, then only the work that deserves to be public now.
The ten-second sentence
A visitor decides in seconds whether they are in the right place. Give them one sentence: who you are, what you do, and for whom.
“I’m Ana, I design booking flows for small hotels.” “I build software for bike shops.” Not “passionate creative problem-solver”: a stranger cannot repeat that, so they will not.
Write five versions. Read them aloud to one person and ask them to tell you, in their words, what you do. Keep the version they repeat best.
Choose what to show
Now open everything you have made: projects, client work, articles, talks, side projects. You are going to keep three to five.
Keep work that:
- matches the sentence you just wrote,
- you would happily do again,
- you can explain in two lines.
Everything else goes on a “later” list. Not deleted, parked. A site with four strong pieces says more than one with twenty mixed ones.
Buy the domain today
If you do not have one, buy it now so it is ready on day 4. Your name is enough. Avoid hyphens and clever spellings: people will type it from memory.
Done when
The sentence is written and tested on one person, three to five pieces of work are chosen, the rest is parked, and you own the domain.
Step 1 is done when
0 of 3Tick each one once it is true for your project, then move on.
Step 1 done.
